Asghar Farhadi (Persian: اصغر فرهادی‎‎, Persian pronunciation: [æsɢæɾ fæɾhɑdiː]; born 7 May 1972) is an Iranian film director and screenwriter. Among other awards, he has received a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for his movie A Separation. He was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world by Time magazine in 2012.

Following Donald Trump's executive order barring Iranians from entering the country, Farhadi said he would not be able to attend the 2017 Academy Awards, despite being nominated for the best foreign-language film.
