USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is a nuclear powered supercarrier of the U.S. Navy and the lead ship of her class. It is one of the largest warships in the world, with a total displacement of 110,250 tons. "Supercarrier" is an unofficial term for the largest aircraft carriers, typically those displacing over 70,000 tons. Supercarriers are the largest warships ever built. The U.S. Navy currently has 11 Supercarriers in service - 10 Nimitz Class carriers, and the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) which is the lead ship of the Ford Class.
