The Char 2C was designed during the latter half of the First World War in an effort to break the stalemate of trench warfare.
French General Mourret, Sub-Secretary of Artillery granted the FCM shipyard a contract to develop a heavy tank or “char d’assaut de grand modèle” meaning “great model assault tank”.
