Tips for efficient motor operation
Electric motor
An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
The reverse of this is the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy and is done by an electric generator, which has much in common with a motor.
Most electric motors operate through the interaction between its magnetic field and winding currents to generate force.
Types of electric motor
The main types are DC motors and AC motors.
AC electric motors are either synchronous or Asynchronous (also called induction motors).
There are 02 types of induction motors. E.g. single phase (capacitor split) and three-phase motors.
Motor Applications
Synchronous motor:
an induction motor is used for low and medium power drives where speed control is not required as for water pumps, tube wells, lathes, drills, grinders, fans, blowers, and compressors etc.
Dc motors are used for heavy-duty applications such as electric locomotives, steel rolling mills, lifts and cranes, lathes, vacuum cleaners etc.
