Giant Chinese LED Torch Teardown
Teardown of a huge Chinese LED flashlight. The power is definitely not as high as the size may suggest. It poses a fire and shock hazard. Non-compliant plug. Capacitive dropper charger with underrated 1uF capacitor only rated 250V= for 240V~ with a peak voltage of 340V. No fuse. No inrush limiter. When I came accross this one, the LEDs were already blackened and the Lead Acid battery partly molten (!!!). The manual tells that the capacity of the battery is 1500mAh and recommends 12h charge. but with 1uF capacitor, full charge can never be achieved. The 5mm LEDs (usually rated for 20-30mA) are operated at 45mA.
