Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, or HIPEC, is a treatment option for patients with advanced cancers that have spread to the abdominal cavity or peritoneum.  First, the doctor performs an operation to remove all visible tumors from the abdominal cavity. Then, the HIPEC is administered, which is a heated chemotherapy treatment aimed at killing any remaining cancer cells that cannot be seen.
