The Electric Motor - History Of Everything

In 1800, Allessandro Volta invented the world's first battery, 1820, Hans Christian Oersted discovered that electric currents create Magnetic fields, 1825, Williams Sturgeon invented Electromagnet and the foundation for electric motors was laid.

May of 1834, Prussian engineer Moritz Jacobi creates the first real rotating electric motor. His motor was powerful enough to drive a boat with 14 people across a wide river.

In 1835, Dutchmen Sibrandus and Christopher built the first practical motor that powered a small model car.

In February 1837, the first patent for an Electric Motor was granted to Thomas Davenport and more than 3 decades later in 1871 Zenobe Gramme introduced the first commercial motor.

In 1886, Frank Julian Sprague invented the first practical DC motor, a non-sparking motor capable of constant speed under variable loads and then the first three-phase synchronous motor was developed by Friedrich August Hasel Wander in 1887. And that's how electric motors came into existence.
