A Chinese water heater. Not an ordinary water heater at all. It is an electrode heater that heats the water by passing electric current through it. Such device basically connects mains voltage (220-240V) to the water. It contains just a plug, cable and two electrodes connected directly to mains. Those electrodes are being immersed into water. No matter how crazy this seems, this appliance is really sold in China. Numerous sellers on Ebay ship this worldwide and some of them have more than 500 pieces sold during last month. The device comes in two versions - 300W and 500W, but the real power is not limited by any means and depends only on the resistance of the water (thus its chemical composition).
I tried to stick my finger into the live water. Electric shock included. By adding salt into the water, I tried to increase the power. The experiment went a little too far. Lots of steam, sparks, smoke, toxic gases, flashes and a tripped 16A breaker. The whole workplace ended up flooded with water, with the live mains equipment floating on it.
WARNING: Never purchase or use this device. The experiments in this video are extremely dangerous and should NOT be done by anyone, anywhere, anytime. Risk of electric shock, fire, explosion, injury, burns and poisoning. Toxic substances or gases may be released.
