Laser Pointer Teardown (+ My Cats)

Teardown of a $0.70 red laser pointer from Ebay. Those small laser pointers come in two versions: One with white LED and one with UV LED in it. One button is for the LED and the other one for the laser. It contains three 1.5V button cells (AG3 or LR41). The typical capacity of those batteries is only 24mAh, so the life is quite short, especially because those batteries are intended for very low current devices (watches and calculators). The operating current of the LED and laser diodes is cca 20-40mA and declines as the battery discharges. The LED is connected directly to the battery via a microswitch. The laser diode has a 56 ohm resistor in series. The batteries tend to run flat very soon, but they somehow recover when they are left for a while.

The video features my two cats (still kittens). If you don't know, a cat + laser = an insane cat. No cats were harmed during making of this video :).
