Modelling of open ocean convection in the North Western Mediterranean sea

This video shows the 3D salinity field in the North Western Mediterranean Sea, modeled by a high resolution model during 3 years. The winter vertical mixing creates water with different characteristics and it's exported far away from the convection zone by coherent vortexes called SCV (submesoscale coherent vortexes, McWilliams 85).
